Jerome was born in Stockton, California in 1946, and began drawing and painting when he was 17. In 1965, at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, he began his formal education in art under the guidance of acclaimed master water-colorist and painter Peter Egeli, studying traditional water color and oil painting techniques. In his third year of education, Jerome attended the prestigious Maryland Institute of Art, where he was introduced to the challenges of abstract painting. Jerome went on to Towson University, in Maryland, where he received his degree in Art Education. After teaching art for some time, Jerome decided to turn his attentions to painting, instead. Since then, he has traveled and painted professionally all across the United States, and Guam, including 10 years on the island of Maui, where he moved in 1974.
Jerome’s works are distinctively layered with paint to produce a complexity of color on color, thus creating a very rich surface effect. In his landscapes, Jerome uses deceptively simple compositions, which, in concert with his unique layering technique, create very contemporary paintings that capture and hold the viewer’s eye. The observer melts into the subject, experiencing the subtle moods created by the artist.
Jerome’s abstract paintings are sophisticated and evocative. Compelling compositions delight the mind. Uniquely creative and multi-dimensional, multiples vignettes within each creation draw the observer in, providing many subtle areas of interest, encouraging the viewer to pause and contemplate each aspect.
Jerome’s works have been represented in several prestigious galleries in Hawaii, to include Lahaina galleries in Hawaii and San Francisco, Center Art Galleries in Honolulu, and Gallery Hawaii, at the Hyatt Regency on Maui Hawaii.
Early in his career, his works were displayed at the Baltimore Museum of Art. His work has also been represented at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon, Georgia, and the Redding Museum of Arts in California. His paintings are also in prestigious collections of the Lubbock Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, and the Maui Memorial Center in Hawaii. His works grace numerous private collections around the world.
